Pig Butchering Scams

Pig Butchering Scam Lawyers for Crypto Fraud Victims

A pig butchering scam is a form of financial fraud in which the scammer develops a close relationship with the victim before defrauding them. The name translates from the Chinese term sha zhu pan (“pig butchering”): the victim is “fattened” with fake profits before being “butchered” and having everything taken. The language is deliberately dehumanizing, and the operations behind it are sophisticated and well-funded.

You didn’t lose your money because you were careless. The scammers who targeted you were professionals who built a relationship over weeks or even months and gained your trust.

What To Do If You Think You’re Being Scammed

If you’re reading this while still involved in a pig butchering scam, read the following warning signs:

  • You were contacted by someone who “accidentally” reached you, and the conversation developed from there
  • The relationship or friendship moved unusually fast for an online connection
  • The investment platform was accessible only through a link they sent you, not through an app store
  • Account gains appeared in your dashboard, but couldn’t be withdrawn
  • Every withdrawal attempt triggered a new fee
  • The person was always unavailable by video call or had ongoing excuses not to meet
  • You were encouraged not to tell family members or friends about the investment

If any of the above describes your situation, stop sending funds immediately. The fees will not unlock your account. Contact us through the form below to discuss your options.

How We Pursue Recovery

Our approach is three-pronged: trace, freeze, and recover. We work with a network of former military and U.S. intelligence officials with careers in financial investigation to identify the wallets where your funds went and document the chain of transactions.

Once we’ve traced the funds, we pursue court orders to freeze the identified wallets and compel exchanges and virtual asset service providers (VASPs) to cooperate. Although many firms sue the exchanges, Berg PC approaches them as partners in stopping fraud, not defendants. This cooperative relationship is what makes our work possible.

Scammers are re-victimizing those they have already stolen from by setting up phony law firm and investigator websites. These “lawyers” and “investigators” promise to help you recover what you’ve lost – for an up front fee.

With very few exceptions, we represent crypto scam victims on a contingency basis. We are paid with a portion of any recovery.

In those matters, we do not ask for payment of any fees or expenses up front. If there is NO RECOVERY, there is NO FEE.

If you are a victim of a cryptocurrency scam, it is imperative that you protect yourself from cryptocurrency recovery schemes.

Whoever you hire, always confirm with their state bar or licensing agency that they are real, and their contact information matches what you see on their website.

Scammers frequently change small details in domain names to impersonate legitimate ones.

Tell Us What Happened

Fill out our case evaluation form. We will review your submission and contact you about next steps. We do not charge for the evaluation and do not charge fees unless we recover.

Time is a factor in cryptocurrency recovery. The longer the gap between loss and action, the fewer options are left. Court orders to freeze assets require knowing where those assets are, and that gets harder to answer with time.

Please do not call or email the office before completing the form. It allows us to triage cases and prioritize emergency situations appropriately.

Why Work with Berg PC

Geoff Berg has spent more than 30 years trying complex commercial cases in Texas and beyond. Best Lawyers in America® has named him to its Commercial Litigation list for 10 consecutive years. He has been a Texas Super Lawyer for more than 20 years. His work in cryptocurrency fraud and recovery has been covered by CNN, ABC News, NBC Nightly News, The Washington Post, The New York Times, and HBO, among others.

Berg PC’s crypto recovery practice is built around the courtroom. Geoff can explain blockchain to a jury that has never heard of it. His skill, combined with our investigator network, litigation track record, and contingency model, is uncommon in this space.

After a crypto loss, people are frequently targeted a second time by scammers posing as law firms or recovery services. They promise quick recoveries, charge upfront fees, and disappear.

You can verify that Berg PC is a real, Texas-licensed firm at texasbar.com. We do not contact clients through Signal, WhatsApp, or social media. We do not charge upfront fees. If anyone claiming to be from Berg PC does any of these things, it is not us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, but it depends on speed, how aggressively the scammers laundered the funds, and whether the money can still be traced to an identifiable wallet. We have recovered funds for real clients. We have also turned away cases where the odds were too low to be worth pursuing. We will give you a clear answer about where your case falls.

Yes. File a report with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov. Do it before or in tandem with contacting us, not instead of it. Law enforcement has investigative powers private attorneys don’t have. Their limitation is bandwidth: they are understaffed relative to the volume of cases, and most individual victims receive little response.

Scammers have started posing as law firms targeting the same victims they already defrauded. Verify any firm through your state bar. Berg PC’s attorneys can be verified at texasbar.com. We do not contact clients through Signal, WhatsApp, or social media. We do not ask for upfront fees. If anyone claiming to be from Berg PC does any of those things, it is not us.
